Our Birds
Widely considered one of South Africa’s premier birding destinations, Zaagkuilsdrift offers something truly special. Nestled in a unique transition zone, our landscape supports an incredible density and diversity of birdlife—including many sought-after lifers.
It’s not unusual to spot a flash of colour from a bee-eater, hear the unmistakable call of the grey go-away-bird, or, with a bit of patience and a good pair of binoculars, catch a glimpse of our more elusive residents like crakes and flufftails.
One of our most treasured areas, Warbler-Way, is a haven for the often-difficult-to-find warblers and other "LBJs"—a favourite stretch for serious birders and newcomers alike.
To date, 435 bird species have been recorded in the area—a number that speaks for itself.
