Rainy Season Travel Notice

The rainy season is one of the most exciting and rewarding times to visit us — the floodplain comes alive, migrant species return, and birding is at its very best. We are delighted that you’ll be experiencing this remarkable time of year with us.

Because the rains transform the landscape so beautifully, the roads can become muddy in places, and sections of Crake Road can get quite deep after heavy rain. With the right vehicle, travel is still very manageable. We do recommend a high-clearance vehicle, and during wetter spells, a 4x4 is the most comfortable and confident choice.

You are always welcome to contact us before travelling to confirm the latest road conditions — we’re happy to advise and help you plan safely.

For guests who prefer not to drive the full distance, we offer a ferry service from the Pienaarsrivier Bridge to the lodge at R500 per one-way trip, bookable in advance.

If you do require help along the way, our rescue service is available. The call-out fee is R500, plus R100 per 30 minutes of tractor time, calculated from when the tractor leaves our farm until it returns.
